Plunge is an online literary magazine publishing short stories, poetry, and non-fiction focusing on queer women within any genre, besides literary or mainstream. In addition, each issue of Plunge has its own theme that each work must address. Themes may, however, be interpreted broadly. Cross-genre stories and creative interpretations are encouraged. All works must feature queer women. A queer woman is defined as a person who is (a) not straight and (b) identifies as female.
Plunge Magazine is accepting submissions of short fiction, poetry, and short non-fiction for its first issue, publishing February 2013. The reading period for this issue is from July 1st to December 1st, 2012.
ISSUE ONE: QUEER WOMEN IN MYTHOLOGY

Re-write old myths revealing or highlighting queer women. Create new myths for cultures who live among the constellations. An ethnographic study of alien mythology. The private folklore of school girls. Modern day fusions. The goddesses of steam.
SHORT STORIES: Size limit is 1000 to 5000 words. Stories should (a) fit clearly within a genre (e.g., mystery, fantasy, western, scifi), (b) include a queer woman (with woman defined as a person who identifies as a woman), and (c) address the theme "queer women in mythology." Payment is $15 flat.
POETRY : Size limit is 3 to 50 lines. Poetry should address the theme of "queer women in mythology" and possess a genre (e.g., steampunk, cozies, hard sf) aesthetic. Poetry may be in any form (free verse, blank verse, sonnet, pantoum, etc). Payment is $3 for 3-25 lines / $5 for 25-50 lines.
NON FICTION: Size limit is 500 to 2500 words. Non Ficton works should focus on "queer women in mythology" through media reviews, interviews, how-to articles, literary analyses, biographies, histories, current events articles, personal essays, and anything else non-fictive in nature. Of the three categories, this is the broadest. Payment is $10 flat.
