Call for Submissions: Cactus Heart Literary Journal Issue 2

Post date: Wednesday, July 25, 2012
Deadline: 1 August 2012

Founded in 2012 by Sara Rauch (who reviews books for Lambda Literary), Cactus Heart is an e-literary journal devoted to spiny writing & art—sharp, relentless, coursing with energy and able to thrive in the harshest of places, all while maintaining a vulnerable, succulent interior.

The reading period for Issue #2 is open from May 15 to August 1.

Cactus Heart seeks new and original poetry, fiction, nonfiction, book reviews, art & photography. We want spiny writing & art—sharp, relentless, coursing with energy and able to thrive in the harshest of places, all while maintaining a vulnerable, succulent interior. Make us swoon.

The specifics: We are, for now, an e-magazine, published as a full-color PDF. We acquire first-time publication rights until the journal is published; after publication, rights revert to the author/artist. Because we are small and in the start-up phase, payment for publication is a free copy of the issue your work appears in. **We also offer an affiliate program in which writers can sell Cactus Heart on their own websites and receive commission.** Each issue will be available for purchase on the website.

Poetry: up to three poems per reading period, submitted in a single document.

Fiction: up to 7,000 words per reading period; one story at a time unless you are submitting flash fiction.

Nonfiction: up to 5,000 words per reading period.
